Nagsasa Cove

If you were to be asked for a good place to go for weekend holidays in Luzon, you would likely give Batangas, Tagaytay or Baguio for an answer. But after experiencing one of the hidden jewels of Luzon last weekend, if I’m asked, I’d probably give a Nagsasa Cove for an answer.

The first attempt to visit Nagsasa Cove was a failure. It was an invitation that a friend posted in Facebook a couple of weeks ago. A week before the trip, several friends expressed their desires to go to Nagsasa but the number narrowed down to two on the last day before the trip. Since it is costly to travel on a small group, we decided to move the schedule on a different week. The Nagsasa trip pushed last weekend with seven people on board, most of which are strangers to each other and are only related through a common friend.

Lake in Nagsasa

Nagsasa beach cove is situated an hour from the center of  the town of San Antonio in Zambales. Getting to San Antonio approximately takes four or five hours so it was planned that we leave Manila early last Santurday. At around 6:30 a.m., we took the Victory Liner bus from Manila going to Zambales. If we would have been prompt enough, we could have saved another bus transfer by taking the Manila-Iba bus instead. It took us approximately two and a half hours to get Olongapo and another hour (including the half an hour of waiting for the bus to leave) to get to San Antonio, Zambales. If you want to get here via air, check out Flighthub for the best deals.

From the town center of San Antonio where passengers usually hop-off from the bus, we took a 20-minute tricycle ride going to a small village called Pundaquit where the boat that will take us to Nagsasa was waiting. Though Nagsasa is part of the Luzon island, it is highly recommended to take a boat to save time and effort. The other way of getting to Nagsasa is to go through the range of mountains and hills that fences the cove from the mainland.

Getting to Nagsasa cove, under a calm weather, took us approximately an hour after leaving the harbor of Pundaquit, San Antonio, Zambales. Before we arrived in Nagsasa cove, we passed by Anawangin cove, another popular beach destination in San Antonio, Zambales. We arrived at 12 noon and immediately prepared our food and set our tents up.

Here are a few of the photos I took that day:

The weather was a bit chilly when we were there but tolerable and it was good because that kind of weather isn’t usually experienced in Manila. The people so kind especially boat men and even the resort owner Mang Ador and his helper Mac-Mac Dela Pena.

  13. Nagsasa is twice the distance of Anawangin and grabe, hundred notches better. My friends and I went to Nagsasa Cove nitong weekend (March 19-21, 2011), and grabe, no Photos can justify the real beauty of the place. Nagmotor lang kaming anim from Makati to Pundakit using Mcarthur highway. We left 2pm and got there at 7pm. We took the risk of riding the boat at night, at mega dasal kaming lahat. We got there at 10pm and set up agad camp and food. The next day, super photoshoot at gala na. Unadulterated beauty and the local aetas are nice.

  14. Hi! my friends and I are going there this April 2-3… any suggestions? I think It`s our first time to go there… we are around 8-10 all in all… Any help and suggestions regarding rates and other stuffs are so much welcome… Thanks a lot!

  31. hi guys we enjoy our island tour last week wala kaming kontact dat time pero we meet this guy boatman po sya and he assist and provide us everything we need . dun narin po xa natulog sa campsite namn para nmn po in anytime we need him ready na xa,,ito po no.nya 09477264124 he offers a very affordable rate..may mgacamping gadgets din po xa pinahiram/rent..

    1. hi jazmin ,
paki message nalang sa akin yung details .. 1st time kasi namin eh .. thank you very much..

    Boatpick up (2 way)
    — 100/pax-kung galing luan
    — 200/pax-kung galing masinloc

    Entrance fee 100pax overnight,

    Cottage 1000night (kasya 5pax)

    — If you like all Package Foods,Entrance, Boat Ride,Cottage, and also Van pwede rin po..

    — Bonfire ( 100 )

You will be spending about 300 or less for food siguro. Puwede rin po kayong magpaluto for a small fee. No available rental of snorkel/mask/fins dun for now so its a good idea to invest on a good set nalang.

God Bless.

We offer the BEST RATE for a hassle-free, all-in-one tour package for your whole family or group of friends! Marvel at the rugged montane backdrop scenes of Pundakit–a charming coastal barrio off the town of San Antonio. Let it spill to the panoramic expanse of the South Chine Sea, where we’ll take you on an exhilarating boat ride to the grandeur that is Nagsasa Cove: a secluded cove carved deep and wide into the the coast, lined with pine trees along its unspoiled beach that boasts of calm, sparkling water. A short trek inland will take you to a hidden cascade for a refreshing dip. Reinvigorate yourself with the sand on your feet and the sound of lapping waves to dissolve your worries away… or if you fancy, camp out for the night under a galaxy of stars that seem to burst from the seam of the sky. 40. “Lowest Rate Tour Package offer”

On with the adventures, we’ll hop around the sentry islands that overlook the coves: the rustic Capones with its abandoned lighthouse, and the pristine Camara with its lime boulders and creamy white sand. Truly, this is paradise, away from the hustle and bustle of city life, but only by a mere few hours of enjoyable travel via the north roads.
